If there's something wrong with the purchase, they don't charge. If they suspect you just don't like it, they will. And it often has to do with the person you're talking with on the phone. It's the same with any and every other big online retailer.

I have edited my initial post. I had confused them with MF. I have done business with both AMS and Zzounds (Same ownership, I think) through the years and have been satisfied. I still think that it is bad policy to try to get a few bucks out of a deal when you will drop the fee if challenged.

Given those issues, yes they should have given you a RMA to ship back to them free.

the last couple decades of folks ordering music toys online , try them out , send them back ... i think has loaded the market with many items that should be marked as ' floor models ' or ' re-stocked ' ..!

Korg wrecks everything. it's one of two companies I will buy NOTHING from ever. The other starts with a "B" and is notorious for reverse engineering.

That's why I stick with Sweetwater. They assign a rep to your account. So I deal with the same guy every time I order or call. I know him, and he knows what I'm about and where I'm coming from. So if there's ever a problem it's not like either one of us is talking to a complete stranger who may or may not be BSing.

The OP should have praised AMS for paying for shipping even though the bass was not defective. Did it need a setup? Sure, but from the description given it was not defective. Bad strings? Maybe it encountered some humidity changes or several temperature changes. A bad finish does not constitute defective.
