Does Walmart open the box to return a gaming console?
Places like Best Buy, Walmart, Target are pretty good about returning most things and in some cases Walmart doesn’t even open the box to make sure the product is in it , but gaming consoles (and expensive electronics like iPads, iPhones and computers) are a different story. Retailers make almost no money selling the consoles themselves. They make much more on gaming accessories and games. Stores have strict policies on checking the serial number on the console itself and matching it to the receipt. If they send back a console that doesn’t match they likely will not get credit for the return. Not to mention that if retailers did not do this the amount of fraud would be massive of people buying non-working consoles on eBay, buying new ones from the store and returning the busted console with the receipt. Checking serial numbers prevents this scam.
Does Best Buy refund you if you lower the price?

Return the new Switch to Best Buy with your new receipt and have the difference refunded to you for the old receipt. Show them their price match policy if they refuse.
